Brooklyn's story
Brooklyn is a 16 lb Border Terrier that is 8 years old. Before we found you, Brooklyn was not doing well at all. One of her liver enzymes was almost 600, she was spilling protein from her kidneys, she was bloated, and her breathing was raspy. She was also eating, drinking, and thus voiding constantly. We were having to get up every hour through the night (and I mean every hour…..)
Most frightening was I was finding Brooklyn failing a bit more each day and those times of “Eureka!” because she was a bit like her old self becoming few. Anytime we had tried a conventional veterinary approach, it only lasted for a short time and then Brooklyn would slip back into more problems. I decided to move in your direction and requested further guidance from you. I was worried about taking her off her current meds but my goal was for Brooklyn to be medication free. When we started your approach she was on 5 different medications including 2 antibiotics.
I am here to tell you that now Ms. Brooklyn is indeed a happier doggie. After finishing our 3rd week it felt like we had been doing this forever – I do not say this because it was a burden, just that it is so natural now for me to shop organic and purify my water, pulverize veggies, prepare fruit each morning and steam what is required.
Improvements after 3 weeks – Her belly is down (although she has always been a large ribbed girl, overweight), breathing is 90% improved, sleeping very soundly with a slight reduction in her needs to void and drink, never had any upsets like vomit or diarrhea, breath is much better (she ALWAYS had bad breath and my breeder just said “oh well”), no idea about her weight but her snap collar is looser. I stopped 2 of the meds just a couple of days ago, and am working toward eliminating the others.

Brooklyn is not a happy dog
After 4 weeks Brooklyn was now completely off kibble Rx Royal Canin. She is now on a 100% real food diet thanks to your guidance. Amazing – where have you been??!! I am so in debt with all the tests after tests after tests. Glad I chose not to do the liver biopsy but know all this had to be done to realize the need for another solution. A vet friend of mine who is the person that subsequently referred me to a specialist checked in to see how we were doing. I was actually worried her reaction would be “ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?” Surprised that she was ecstatic with my decision and this has prompted her to move closer in the direction of holistic with her practice. Now, I have not shared this with my specialist that I think would be totally against this….oh well!
We went through a period of Brooklyn having tremors before and I realized we have not had any now for weeks. Her intake of water has definitely reduced but she continues to void more frequently than I like. Sometimes I wonder if her bladder was affected by all this. OUR BONUS HERE IS SHE IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT – I told you we used to get up every hour (did I mention it was every hour…..?). Her sleeping pattern is superb now, sleeping all through the night.
Brooklyn and I continue to be forever thankful to you….and I cannot stop telling absolutely everyone I know about this and you!
Just so you know, my husband is telling me to “get off the soap box” because I have become such a fanatic about what you are teaching me. It is no secret that nutrition is most important to our health but to experience this miraculous transition in Brooklyn, it is rather consuming to see it happening firsthand. It is hard to believe that just a couple of months ago, I remember her having funky spells where she would suddenly get up from a sleep and appear to be a zombie in a trance – just staring at nothing. One of my other border terriers (her husband) was even spooked by her. Her breathing was so labored and raspy, I would hold her and cry as I told her how much I loved her and was not ready to let her go…..that is how bad she was!

I share this with you because in my mind, you are Brooklyn’s Guardian Angels! She is my 2012 Xmas present as I never thought she would still be with me when I reached out to you for help less than 2 months ago in November. Again, my heartfelt thanks….

UPDATE January 2014:
Although Missy Brooklyn and I have kept in touch over the past year with questions on nutrition or my need to brag about her condition, I would like to continue my story with anyone who wonders about “down the road” consequences.
It did not take long to see that your suggestions of a healthy diet should improve her health condition. Actually, it saved her life! After a few months, I started to notice ever so small improvements – simple things like her willingness to make the effort to jump up on a chair. Not sure why her condition prevented her from the normal little things that terriers do, but Brooklyn could not muster the energy or the desire to struggle with jumping. Time moved on and the next few months, we saw her alpha nature returning as she ran sprints around the furniture and ruled the rest of my pack with attitude. BEWARE – she is back!
Brooklyn is back in the competition ring and does each sport with more enthusiasm than I have ever seen. I retired her from the agility ring because back when her health was poor – her fastest speed was trot. Now she runs the course as fast as her little legs will carry her. Then off we went to do Earth Dog and she finished her title in Senior and earned her first ribbon at the Master’s level. I have attached her picture from November 2013. We are anxious to complete her Master’s title as soon as weather allows us to return to the field.
If anyone doubts that what you offer is beneficial, Brooklyn and I are here to attest to everything that is so wonderful. It is over one year now that we have transitioned to her healthy diet and supplements and each day when I hug and kiss her, I marvel at my own story!
